Unlike the available balance, the collected balance is the ledger balance minus uncollected amounts not yet processed. Note that even though a check can be deemed to be an available-for-use fund, by the depositor's bank or savings institution, excess days are added in order to afford the bank more time in the event it decides to return the check. During which time it does not appear within the collected balance.
