Average Daily Float & Savings Accounts Explained:

When checks are made from a savings account, the time to post to the account has shrunk over past years. Although this time in collection has been reduced, it's not immediate. The average daily float is expressed as a dollar amount and refers to items that are in collection for an account; meaning, funds that have not yet been posted either as collected or available. The ADF (those in this process) are arrived at by dividing the total amount in collection for a given period by the number of days in that period.

Along the same vein, the average collected balance factors-in any uncollected amounts.
